The origins of Saltillo tiles come from a city in Mexico called Saltillo. These tiles have more colours and shapes than you can imagine. Actually, the main colour selection is from red, orange and yellow shades. There are two ways how the shape of a Saltillo tile is created: either by pressing the clay into a wooden frame or carving out the wanted shape.
Saltillo tiles soak in all kinds of liquids extremely easily and that makes it a bit difficult to install. If the installation process is not done properly, there will be a lot of additional problems. Therefore, make sure that you hire a qualified professional to install your Saltillo tiles. In addition, when installing a very important thing is to avoid all kinds of stains on the tiles as that will ruin the quality of the tiles. These tiles are not suitable to use in the outdoor conditions in the regions of the earth where winters are very cold and where the tiles could get frozen.
The main disadvantage of Saltillo tiles is that although the tiles are rather cheap, than the installation makes the whole process quite expensive. Therefore, these tiles are not so broadly spread and very popular just because of the cost.
