The stone used for producing travertine tiles is also called Calcium Carbonate and it belongs to the same type of stones as limestone. Travertine is formed inside Earth when the minerals dissolve in the water in the Earths ground and it is brought to the surface by rivers, springs and geysers. As you can guess, as travertine tiles are made out of stone they are rather durable.
Travertine tiles come in large palette of colours as you can find these tiles in ivory, beige, noce, walnut and gold colour. Actually, the material that causes travertine to change colour is considered to be the organic impurities. When you use travertine tiles as a finish on your floors not only the colour can alter, there also four different types of finishes that are used on these tiles: polished, which will make the tiles shiny, honed and the tiles are matte, brushed as well as tumbled, which means that the surface as a special texture. The polished travertine tiles finish is considered to be the shiniest one of all of the finishes and reflects the biggest amount of light.
